The Palace Style is the decorative style typically applied to pottery vessels, usually large (pithoi and pithoid jars), from the end of Late Minoan IB into Late Minoan IIIA1 (c. 1450-1375 BC). This style includes themes of the Floral and Marine Styles of the preceding period, and other pictorial elements such as the double axe and the helmet, with a tendency towards stylisation and repetition, arranged in zones covering the whole surface of the vase. Pithoi and pithoid jars in the Palace Style are believed to be produced by palace workshops and used as luxury and display vessels by their owners. Many have been found in the rich tombs of this period.
