A decorative vase-painting style of the Late Minoan IB period (1500-1450 BC), forming part of the Special Palatial Tradition. The decorative elements are drawn from the world of the sea (argonauts, octopuses, seaweed, coral, etc.). The arrangement is usually dense, covering the whole surface of the vase, with some large themes “floating” in the space and a variety of smaller supplementary motifs. The Marine Style is also a popular trend in other artforms as early as the preceding period, as attested by monumental fresco painting, stone vases, faience artefacts, etc.
