A particularly popular pottery style in the Hellenistic period, especially in the East Mediterranean. It is named after the West Slope of the Athens Acropolis, where vessels in this style were discovered during excavations by the German Archaeological Institute in the late 19th century. The decorative motifs are rendered using incision, clay wash, and red and white paint on a black ground.
