A type of amphora with a pointed body ending in a slightly curved, narrow base, with angular shoulders, vertical handles and a short neck. It is ideally suited to moving commodities by sea. Produced by workshops in the area of Canaan, corresponding to parts of modern-day Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon. Canaanite amphorae, some with incised marks, have been found at various sites in Crete and the South Aegean. They were imported together with their contents, probably wine, honey and resin, chiefly during the Late Bronze Age.
